University of Nottingham - Portland House

In 2013 the University Executive Board agreed that there would be a £15m investment into Portland Building on University Park Campus to create a brilliant building for students. As Portland is such a busy building (sometimes attracting 18,000 through it a day!) there is no way of closing to complete refurbishments. Instead, the work was phased over 4 years, mainly over summer periods.

Phase 3 (2017) works included a new cafe (Portland Coffee Company) as well as new retail spaces on B floor. A new student welcome reception has also been developed on C floor of the building. In 2017 there was also a landscaping project undertaken on Portland Hill, which includes large water features, terracing and sky canopy.

The second phase of the 4 year refurbishment programme of the Portland Building, completed in 2016 created a large extension of the Mooch bar external terrace, external food court terrace and refurbished office space for the Students' Union. The installation of a large TV screen has also been completed as part of this phase.

This is in addition to phase 1 (completed in 2015) which included The Studio and Studio 'Live' spaces.
